Author Archive

Wow, It’s already been a year since my last “In Review” blog. For the uninitiated, this is just a collection of lists I put together each year. They are fairly random but they encompass different ways I’ve spent my time and where some of my interests lie. Hopefully, I can add a couple of new categories next year. You might find them entertaining, insightful, or a bit odd. Either way, I like my review lists and enjoy sharing so, here we go.

Random Things I Observed About 2008
Favorite Term: HD (high definition, No kidding, I saw an analog wall clock with a fuzzy background image labeled: High Definition Wall Clock. It’s time for a new favorite term.)
Most Popular Question: Have you read The Shack?
Biggest Online Trend: Facebook (It’s everywhere, teens and grandmas are using this thing and superpoking an unholy number of people a day!)
Most Rampant Abuse of Technology: Text Messaging (SMS) (People to texting while driving!…and praying, eating, in mid-conversation with you.)
The Movie: Dark Knight (Even more people have seen this movie than have read The Shack.)
Most Parodied Commercial: PC vs Mac (Even I’m considering going mac now…maybe.)
Most…Whatever…Video Game: Guitar Hero (Even a middle aged Worship minister I know is playing it. I admit, I don’t get the appeal.)
2008 Made Up Word Of The Year: Nontree. (It’s a term for people who eat out on a budget and only order an appetizer. )
Biggest Inconvenience: Prepaying for Gas (I know, I know, “Whaaah! Still, I never fill up since I don’t want to have to make a second trip in for change. )

I was on the phone the other day with friend from back home. He asked me, “So are things there really as bad there as the news makes it out to be?” My answer: Absolutely, but the news doesn’t do it justice. Now, the area I live in is fine. There are only a few reminders of Ike’s visit but the coastal areas are devastated. I got to go down last week to work in Galveston and, if i didn’t know better, I would say that Ike came through just a few days before. You could still see the waterline marks on the walls - they were around 8 feet high.

I went down with almost 40 volunteers from our congregation (several teens and members of all ages) and got to do clean up at one location. The local congregation, along with a disaster relief group, fed over 500 people (as they do every day) at their location. Just to give you an idea, I have tacked on some pics of the clean-up work. These really don’t even give a good scope of the damage. Picture this but for miles and miles. Keep praying for the folks there.

WE HAVE A SON!!! He was born August 5th, 2008 and weighs 4lbs 15oz and is 17 3/4 inches long. Both he and mom are doing well. Below are a few of the first pics of our little boy. He is doing very well and should be moved out of NICU (they put him there because of his weight) tonight and then mommy and daddy will get to hold him all the time.

One Proud Papa!

One Happy Mommy

He\'s just waking up.

He\'s got a great set of lungs!

I recently came across this while messing around on the internet. I have to wonder why we never learned about these kinds of historical events in school. Also, I have to confess that to my disgrace a little smile crossed my lips while reading about this horror. I couldn’t help but speculate how things may have been different if my good friend Brad and I had been their with a bag of biscuits.
